We have negotiated preferential rates for car hire through Auto Jardim, a long established, local company. We have constant reports from our clients about the excellence of their service and, with a network of offices throughout Portugal, they are able to respond to any problem without delay.

Their rates are usually substantially lower than those offered by the international car hire companies if you compare like for like. Please bear in mind that the rates shown are FULLY INCLUSIVE.

Beware of other so-called bargain car hire prices; most companies ask for a SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE BOND, an extra insurance premium on collection of the car or airport taxes. If you have an accident you risk losing the bond. We cover the extra collision damage insurance premium, so our clients don't have to lodge a large sum of money overseas or on their credit cards or pay for extra insurance to avoid this. Auto Jardim simply ask our clients for a petrol deposit, which is returned on the spot, if you take your car back with a full tank.

Car rental commences at the time you collect your vehicle at the beginning of your holiday. If your return flight does not leave within an hour or so of your arrival time, you will be expected to pay for an extra day's rental.

In order to drive in Portugal you will need to have a full driving licence. The laws in Portugal regarding baby & booster seats are the same as in the UK. If you have booked your hire car through us, Auto Jardim have a supply of baby & booster seats for which the hire charge is €5 per item, per day (maximum €70 per rental), payable on arrival; alternatively, you may prefer to take your own. If you have booked a hire car independently, we strongly suggest that you confirm baby and booster seats are available for your vehicle. The police are empowered to impose on the spot fines for failure to comply with these car seat laws.

Visit Spain at no extra charge

We have arranged that our clients may take their hire cars to Spain AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. Please let us know when you book the car if you wish to do so and we will make all the arrangements for you as the car hire company has to be notified in advance to arrange the necessary paperwork.

Minimum Rental is 3 days. Please ask for a quotation for rentals for less than a week.
GPS is now fitted to many cars however you cannot rely on this to find your villa. Many roads and addresses in Portugal are not registered on the GPS mapping system and postcodes, as we have in the UK, don’t exist, so please use the directions and map that we provide to find your villa.
Roof Racks are charged locally at €6 per day; minimum charge €18, maximum charge €84.
Additional Drivers will be charged locally at €18 per driver.
Drivers Aged Between 21 & 25 Years will be charged locally an additional €4 per day.
Third Party & Accidental Damage Insurance is included.
Extra Passenger Insurance can be supplied by Auto Jardim at €4.50 per day, payable locally. Please
check your holiday insurance carefully as you may already be covered. If you take the insurance
offered by The Villa Agency you will automatically be covered.
Delivery or Collection of hire cars at Lisbon or Faro Airport between midnight & 6am will incur a
fee of €17. Alternatively we can arrange for your car to be delivered to your villa during office hours
(9am - 7pm excluding lunchtime). Please note that there will be an additional charge to deliver and collect cars from villas in the Lisbon area. Please ask us as the charge varies according to the villa.

Booking a Hire Car
You can add a hire car to your booking at any time without incurring an amendment fee. However, early booking is recommended as all requests will be subject to availability. Please contact our office either by telephone or email.

VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

If you are involved in an accident, you will not be covered for insurance if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If the car is damaged as a result of an accident for which you are to blame no refund will be given by the car hire company, you must pay for the damage to the car and a replacement car will be charged at the full price and a large deposit taken, similarly, if you do not take reasonable care of the vehicle or report damage to the car hire company you may be charged for further resulting damage. Hire cars must not be used for any sports competitions, races, rallies etc. All drivers must be included on the rental agreement in order to be covered by insurance
