This lovely villa stands high on a hill outside Sao Bras de Alportel and has beautiful views down two valleys. It is in an idyllic, secluded position to the north of Faro and is perfectly located with several good restaurants close by. A 15 minute down hill walk will take you to most of the shops and markets. There is a main fruit, fish and veg local market in the centre every Wednesday and Saturday.
Casa Antiga has been cleverly designed in traditional Portuguese style with wide walls and high bamboo cane ceilings which keep the rooms cool in summer and warm in winter. With ease of living in mind, all the main rooms open onto the garden and pool and there is a serving hatch to the dining area from the well equipped kitchen. The furniture and decor have been chosen carefully with much attention to detail - comfortable sofas and chairs, attractive covers in each bedroom and beautiful bathrooms. All the bedroom and dining furniture is locally made in traditional Portuguese style and there are mosquito nets fitted in all rooms. The owners designed the villa carefully ensuring that it takes advantage of the wonderful views of the valley to the hills and that air conditioning is not a requirement as it stays delightfully cool in the summer months.
The colourful lawned garden has been planted with attractive flowers and plants, surrounding the barbeque area and pool . The swimming pool has been installed with salt water – much kinder on the eyes than chlorine. The pool is also fenced for safety with two access gates.

In the hills behind Faro there are some wonderful towns and villages which remain relatively unaffected by tourism. Loulé is a typical, bustling market town with lots of history and remnants of its Roman and Moorish past, including the old castle walls and mosque-like churches. As the coast has developed, gradually more villas have been built on the almond tree filled hills surrounding Loulé but this has not changed the character of the town; if you wander down the cobbled side streets, you will find workshops with craftsmen busily working on leatherware, weavers making baskets and metal workers beating out copperware.
São Brás is a sleepy town 12kms from Loulé with a central square, an interesting museum, several restaurants and few tourists. Close by is the village of Estoi which has Roman ruins, an 18th Century palace and an excellent market held on the second Sunday of each month. Mr C 2014 "Casa Antiga is tucked away in the hills just outside Sao Bras but is not too remote with a few neighbours and a good access road. The Villa is attractive, very well equipped, nicely furnished and decorated and very comfortable with ensuite bathrooms throughout. There is a good stock of books, games and DVD’s for entertainment if required, (but there are only a few English TV channels available now since a satellite was shut down earlier this year, not a major problem !! ). The gardens are delightful and the good sized pool can be heated, (we took advantage of this!). There is plenty of outside furniture for dining and relaxing in the sunshine but, if too hot, the terrace is shady on one side overlooking the pool, ( gated pool area for safety ).
The Villa is within easy reach of the coast, coastal resorts and airport. A number of quiet villages can also be found in the surrounding hills and the scenery is delightful.
There are a number of local restaurants for dining less than two three miles away in the area around Sao Bras and there is a local market but major supermarkets are also easily reached.
Would we go back, certainly, in fact we have already booked for next year. Highly recommended."
