Terraquina is situated along a valley close to the historic town of Silves. This is without doubt one of the most attractively restored cottages we have ever seen set in a landscape of low, rolling hills covered in olive and citrus trees. This is a fabulous area for walking with spectacular views and wild flowers in the spring time and activities such as horse riding and archery are available within a ten minute drive. Terraquina is far enough from the coast to give a sense of the real Algarve, yet some of the finest beaches and golf courses in Europe are within easy reach. There are some great restaurants in Vale Fuzeiros (about 5kms away), serving simple Portuguese food. The nearby Rainha Restaurant is very popular for Sunday lunch. The Barragem do Arade (reservoir) is about 4kms away and is worth a visit.
The cottage has been painstakingly renovated and retains many original features which combine well with modern fixtures and fittings. The exceptionally attractive living/dining room/kitchen is open-plan with a beamed ceiling and green kitchen work surfaces complimenting the mint green sofas in the living area. There is a mezzanine on the first floor overlooking the living room below and there are lots of windows making the property light and airy. The English owners have young children so care has been taken to make the cottage as safe as possible (although there are steps both internally and externally, there are gates so that these areas can be closed off). The tiny swimming pool has a cover which ensures a pleasant temperature. This unique property is ideal for those who enjoy the countryside and would be the perfect choice for a honeymoon.
Ground floor: Open-plan living/dining room/kitchen. 1 twin bedroom. 1 shower room.
First floor: 1 double bedroom. 1 bedroom with bunk beds. 1 bathroom with bath & shower.
Gated pool terrace.

Originally the Moorish capital, Silves is now a thriving community with a bustling riverside complete with pavement cafés, cobbled walkways and cycle paths along the river. The vegetable and fish market is best on Saturday morning, spilling onto the narrow shopping streets, where an old fashioned hardware store and haberdashery sit alongside souvenir shops and bakeries selling delicious cakes. Silves is home to Rui's, one of the Algarve's longest established restaurants which serves excellent fish and seafood. The sandstone castle stands high above the town and has stunning views over the surrounding countryside and the River Arade. The cosmopolitan Café Inglês is next door to the castle and has an interesting menu and live music on Saturdays and Sundays (advance booking is usually required).
Despite its proximity to the coast, Paderne is very much a traditional village. Local produce is traded in the markets here and in nearby Algoz and Messines. There ar...READ MORE >
Mr D 'We will be using you again and have passed your website details onto our friends. Thanks for a great service'.
Mr & Mrs B, Feb 2013 "We had a gloriously relaxing 5 days at Terraquina. Nestled in in a beautiful rural setting a little outside Silves, the views were spectacular over the hills. The villa itself felt homely instantly and is impeccably renovated. Being February we (being British!) thought that it was warm enough to sit outside with a good book in the day, but chilly enough at night to get a good log fire going… so we really had the best of both worlds. It is also extremely well tailored to children, and having a tear-away toddler of our own, this is something that we look out for these days. I can't wait for a return visit!"
Mr G "Thank you for a wonderful stay at Villa Terraquina near Silves. We have just returned today much relaxed for our holiday - we can highly recommend this villa as a perfect place to stay for a good mix of relaxation, access to local Portuguese life and the wonderful beaches of the Algarve. Thank you very much indeed."
