5 Reasons to Book your Villa Holiday in Mallorca

Besides the obvious sun, sea, and sand, here are 5 reasons to book your villa holiday in Mallorca, located in the beautiful Balearic Islands, Spain.

1. The Caves

Did you know that the island has one of the largest, discovered, underground lakes on the planet, Lake Martel?  Cuevas del Drach is a spectacular cave system in Porto Cristo, first discovered in the late 1800’s.  Tours of the caves allow visitors to witness unbelievable stalactite formations, turquoise waters and even experience a floating, classical concert and boat trip.  A magical way to enjoy a natural phenomenon.

2. The Views

The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range runs the length of Mallorca’s north coast from Andratx to Pollensa.  They form the most awe-inspiring landscapes and many of our villas have direct views of them.  Many visitors choose to take part in organised hikes of the mountains to enjoy the scenery and reach the best spots to experience the sensational views of the island.  The fertile plains coming off the mountain range also produce some of the best wines on the island.

3.  The History

For families wanting to take part in a less arduous hike, yet still enjoy the beautiful views, a walk up the Puig de Maria to visit the historical monastery at the top is well worth the effort.  Puig de Maria is one of the smaller hills, overlooking Pollensa and is 330m high.  It takes about 40 minutes to reach the top where you are rewarded with amazing views, the monastery which is rich in history and showcases three architectural styles, and a restaurant serving traditional Mallorcan cuisine.

4. The Food

There are lots of fabulous restaurants in Mallorca serving a huge range of different cuisines but their local specialities are definitely worth a try as they are both delicious and unique to the island.  For example, Ensaimada is a spiral, sweet pastry covered in powdered sugar and delicious dunked in coffee!  Tumbet is similar to a Ratatouille and consists of layers of vegetables including aubergine, potato and peppers with lashings of garlic, parsley and olive oil and can be enjoyed on its own or as an accompaniment to a meat or fish dish. Sobrasada is a cured sausage that can be found served in many different ways either very simply with crusty bread or as an ingredient to enrichen casseroles or pasta dishes.  Delicious!
