Faro Old Town

If you have had a holiday on the south coast of Portugal, the chances are you flew into Faro Airport but did you know that Faro is also the capital city of the Algarve and is so much more than just an airport?

Many people choose to book early or late flights but either can’t gain access to their villas or have to leave early on the final day so face the prospect of hanging around, killing time. We suggest a day or half day in Faro (of course we don’t suggest you leave your luggage unattended in your hire car but there is a left luggage facility at Faro Train Station).

There is something for everyone; the city is steeped in history with amazing architecture, museums, churches, a cathedral and Roman remains. The historic centre is amazing, with some fabulous, traditional restaurants and bars.

There are half day boat trips to Ria Formosa Natural Park and Islands with wonderful beaches and wildlife.

As early and late flights are often far more affordable this might be a great way to make the very best of every moment of your holiday.
