This magnificent estate has 10,400 square metres of gardens and is close to the village of Magoito in Sintra/Cascais Natural Park, a World Heritage site. The property is secluded and quiet and it is difficult to believe it is so close to the village centre.
The main house dates back to the early part of the 20th century and over the years has played host to numerous visiting dignitaries. The entire property has been completely renovated yet many of the original features have been retained; traditional hand-painted tiles have been kept in the suites and some of the bedrooms. A flight of steps leads to a terrace with views across the countryside and the front door opens onto a reception hall which has an impressive inscribed fireplace, hand-painted beams and leads to the formal dining room. The large kitchen has the original blue and white tiles but is fully equipped with modern appliances.
The house has its own carefully restored chapel and the spacious living room, which houses the snooker table, has steps up to the original wine press. As there are some low ceilings and open stairs which add to the overall character care should be taken with young children in some areas of the house. The bedroom on the lower level contains a stunning and unusual bathroom with a freestanding bath and basin; it is designed around the original well which has been covered with reinforced glass and in the winter the water rises up to the level of the glass - perfectly safe but unique! From this level double glass doors lead on to a secluded terrace with steps up to the garden. Paths wind through the various areas of the garden which is a mass of colour with a variety of fruit trees, lawns and rose bushes.
There are two separate suites set away from the main house which are only made available for groups of more than 10 people. Each of them has its own living room, underfloor heating and an air-conditioned bedroom with en-suite shower room. The Stable Suite has a beautiful polished cobbled floor and the manger has been cleverly adapted into washbasins. It also has its own constantly flowing, shallow, covered cooling-off pool (which as an alternative can be heated up to 32°C).
The tennis court has a fast-draining, fast-playing porous cement surface. It is overlooked by a terrace with a parasol and directors chairs where the less energetic can enjoy a G & T! The impressive L-shaped pool house is set away from the main house and has glass doors opening onto the reduced chlorine pool. Another area of the garden has an ornamental pond and fountain. There is garden furniture and sun loungers by the summer house, ideal for sunbathing and with views as far as the Pena Palace in Sintra - the centre of Sintra is only 20 euros by taxi.
In the area there are seven golf courses; sailing, windsurfing, big game fishing and scuba diving are all available in Cascais and tailor-made activity tours are also available for our guests and can be arranged and paid for locally. The area is excellent for walking, cycling, climbing, horse riding and "parapente" or kitesurfing.

We have a varied collection of properties in fabulous locations which are an easy drive from Lisbon Airport. Just 28kms south of Lisbon, across the River Tagus is the beautiful Arrábida National Park with breath taking scenery and beaches, stretching for some 22 miles between Sesimbra and Setúbal, this area is carpeted by wild flowers which are amongst the most colourful and varied in Iberia. The coastline at Sesimbra is beautiful and dramatic, the town has some fantastic seafood restaurants and local activities include an array of water sports, scuba diving, climbing, cycle trails, horse riding and boat trips. Sintra inspired Lord Byron to write 'Glorious Eden' and it is easy to see why. It is a picturesque town, amidst the pine-covered hills. The panoramic scenery and slightly cooler climate historically enticed the nobility and elite of Portugal, who constructed exquisite palaces, extravagant mansions and decorative gardens, most of which...
are now open to the public and well worth a visit. Quinta do Peru is also to the south of Lisbon, close to Azeitão. Located in a forest of pine and cork trees, it is an area of great natural beauty with an excellent golf course. Dolphin watching trips can be arranged and kayaks and sail boats can be hired in nearby Setúbal. The Herade da Aroeira is surrounded by 10kms of some of the best beaches in Portugal; Fonte da Telha has a number of small restaurants and beach bars which specialise in grilled fish - some of them have wonderful terraces - perfect for enjoying a cool glass of wine whilst watching the sun set. After night fall some turn into "discos". About 7kms from the resort there are a wide range of beach bars, all quite different, with something for every taste, from a simple wooden hut to the more sophisticated. The resort has two golf courses, carved from a dense pine forest, with tree lined fairways bordered by water. Aroeira hosted the 1996 and 1997 Portuguese Open, with the Donald Steel course opening in 2000 to rave reviews.
we love this part of Portugal. The fascinating history and spectacular buildings, the vibrant green landscape and dramatic coastline and the impressive golf courses make staying in this area a truly memorable experience.
